Who should consider it
A flexible developer VPS platform for users comfortable managing Linux and infrastructure; the operational burden is the main trade-off.
What to check
- Self-managed infrastructure
- Stopped instances remain billable
- Backups and extra networking features add cost
Before you pay
- The $5 plan is the broadly available 1 GB public-IP plan, not the restricted IPv6-only offer.
- Stopped instances continue to incur charges because resources remain reserved.
- Destroying the instance is required to stop compute billing.
- Backups, snapshots, extra IPv4 addresses, and DDoS options may add cost.
